Custard Cream the Opposition!
Custard Media F.C. got off to a winning start as the company’s first ever football match produced a thrilling 9-5 win over local rivals EAOM.
Website Editor Tom Cafferkey was the pick of the bunch, grabbing four goals as the diminutive forward proved his left foot was a valuable asset to the side. However, it was very much a group effort, with each member of Team Custard contributing to the victory.
Directors Adam Livermore and Sam Allcock were involved, having missed the training session a few weeks earlier. Both showed their strengths, with Livermore’s fitness was apparent for all to see as he raced past a disinterested Allcock to chase down a loose pass.
However, Sam more than made up for it with a stunning through-ball to Content Writer Ayman Fazeli early on, with Fazeli planting the ball in the back of the net with what looked like an effortless goal.
A bright start from Custard saw us take a 4-0 lead, but when Custard Media Digital’s Matt Bessent took a turn in goal, the gap left in defence was exposed by the opposition and before long the game looked in danger as we found ourselves 5-4 down.
Bessent’s Digital partner Matt Fielding wasn’t having the best of games and despite dominating in the air, looked out-of-sorts with the ball on the deck and produced a weak backpass to allow EAOM’s striker to score.
However, Fazeli’s invention coupled with the tenacity of Junior Account Manager Rick Walker in midfield was producing chances for Cafferkey, whose finishing was lethal on the night.
Walker even came home with a war wound as blood dripped from a knee injury, but his sharpness in the tackle proved invaluable as chances were converted by Cafferkey and Fazeli – and a thunderbolt from Bessent was the icing on the Custard cake.
Cafferkey was understandably delighted with his own performance, but was quick to point out the value of those around him:
“At the end of the day it’s the result that counts, not who scored the goals. The boys were great out there tonight, I’m just glad I could do my bit for the team and for the fans who turned up to support us.”
