Automating Twitter Using Feedburner
These days, Twitter is one of the most widely used social media platforms. The most common reason for not tweeting is quite simply not having enough time or enough things to say.
Below is a simple tutorial to simply update your twitter account automatically whenever you publish a blog post.
The Custard Media Guide to Auto-Tweeting Blog Posts
With the new ‘social’ feature of Google Feedburner, it is now easy to tweet your new blog posts using #hashtags direct from any Feedburner Feed.
To activate the Socialize service, these are the steps that you have to follow:
Step 1 – Logging In
- Log in to your Twitter account.
- Login to your Google Feedburner account.
Instructions to set up Feedburner or Twitter can be found here.
Step 2 – Selecting A Feed
- When finished click on the ‘publicize’ tab.
- Then you need to click on the ‘socialize’ tab on the left column.
- Click the button for “Add Twitter account”
You will then be redirected into the main site of Twitter. This is where you will be clicking on the button for Authorize app in order to pursue connecting Google Feedburner into your account in Twitter.
You will need to choose from options like whether to display titles and the body of your content, whether to include the link, leave some space for the re-tweets, no extra texts, keyword filters, hash tags etc.
You might also prefer to limit the number of the posts and then leave sort orders at its default date for publishing. However, such settings can be changed anytime.
Step 3 – Activation
The last step that you have to do is by clicking the Activate button and has the service whenever you are already satisfied with the kind of layout for tweeting your blog posts. Now have a look on your Twitter account and you’ll see the posts automatically tweeted. It can take some time for the Feedburner to pick up the newest entry from your feeds but normally it’s done straight away.
If you are not a regular user of Feedburner – I have outlined the benefits below:
- You can manage and monitor all your feeds from one control panel
- You can monitor clicks, popular stories and subscribers
- You can add logos to your feed
- You can add social bookmarking links to the feed
Feedburner is a social community in itself, as people are looking for new resources all the time. You can categorize your feed to enable others to find it.
Feedburner has many interfaces to make it easier for people to subscribe. The main advantage for bloggers is that it allows you to socialize your feed much easier.
